Vernon TESSIER

Vern Tessier, 89, formerly of Rochester Hills, died peacefully Sunday in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he had lived for the past two years. He was born April 15, 1933, in Kingsford, Michigan. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1955 and married Kathleen Freidhoff Tessier a few weeks later. He participated in the Army ROTC, and was in the U.S. Army for two years. Kathy and Vern settled in Rochester Hills in 1969 and raised four children. He served on the Avon Township planning board and the Old People's Center in Rochester Hills. He was predeceased by his wife, Kathleen, and by his longtime companion, Maureen Currey; as well as his sons Vincent and Thomas. He is survived by his son Louis Tessier and his wife, Julie, of Grand Rapids; his daughter, Marie Tessier, of Bangor, Maine, and four grandchildren. Among his great legacies was financing his grandchildren's college educations. He was also a stubborn advocate for the many bike paths along major roads in Rochester Hills, which are enjoyed by so many. His remains will be interred over the summer.
