Fayette Edward "Ed" Tessier, age 85, of Osawatomie, died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003 at the Olathe Medical Center in Olathe.
He was born Oct. 7, 1918 in Wichita to Edward H. Tessier and Francis J. Sierman Tessier. His father passed away in Dec. 1918 during the 1918 flu epidemic. His mother and he moved to Eureka to live with his grandmother, Martha Sierman. He attended Mulberry Junion High and Eureka High School, where he graduated in 1937. During these years he was a Boy Scout.
He began his Law Enforcement career in Eureka as a patrolman. He moved to Yakima, WA. He joined Missouri Pacific Railroad Special Service Department (Railroad Police). He received a leave of absence for five years to become Chief of Police of the Eureka Police Department. The purpose of the leave of absence was to modernize the department which he did.
On Dec. 24, 1952 he married Norma Broyles Beedles at the First Christian Church in Eureka. He adopted her daughter, Sherri G. Beedles. The family moved to Kansas City where he returned to his employment in the Special Services Department of MoPac (which is now Union Pacific Railroad). He transferred to Coffeyville, returned to Kansas City and then moved to McGehee, AZ. He and his wife came to Osawatomie in March 1976 when he was appointed Special Agent for the Division. He retired in Nov. 1983 with over 40 years in law enforcement.
He was a World War II Veteran serving in the South Pacific in the Phillippines and the Occupation Forces of Japan. He was a charter member of the World War II Monument in Washington, D.C.
He joined the Methodist Church in Osawatomie. He was a member of both the Masonic Lodge No 643 and the Eastern Star Chapter in McGehee, AZ. He was a member of the Kansas Peace Officers Association.
He was a golfer and served as president of the Osawatomie Men's Club for seven years. He was a lifetime member of the American legion Post No 50 in Eureka.
He is survived by one daughter Sherri G. Pickrell, and one grandson Scott E. Pickrell, both of Kansas City.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Norma on Jan. 19, 2002.
Graveside services were held Wed. Dec. 3 at the Greenwood Cemetery in Eureka.
