With profound sadness we announce the passing of Fernande Rheault, loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law and friend, on April 25, 2021. Fern died peacefully, surrounded by family at her cherished home overlooking the Merrimack River in Manchester, NH. She was born in Manchester on June 28, 1938 the daughter of Gerald and Lucia (Robert) Tessier. She was a lifelong resident of Manchester, having attended Manchester Central High School and Notre Dame College, where she pursued her love for music.
Fern lived her life with quiet strength and understated grace. Her legacy will continue to guide us towards what is truly important - the simple and foundational pieces of life: family, friends, compassion and laughter. She is the rock our family is built on. She was always strong when everyone else wasn't, never asking for a lighter burden, instead teaching us to have broader shoulders. Always there to listen and catch us when we fell, she gave selflessly and derived joy from other's joy, never letting anyone leave her presence without being happier. Whether quietly loving a family gathering or exploring people and cultures around the world, her presence was felt by those blessed enough to know or meet her.
She was devoted to Ste. Marie Parish, directing both the children's choir and adult choir while working as the administrative secretary at the Ste. Marie Parish office for thirty-two years. She shared her beautiful voice as a soloist at weddings and funerals for many years. She also served on the Board of Directors for CMC Associates.
A terrific hostess, Fern took pleasure in listening to classical music, Barry Manilow, birds singing and cooking shows. Although she was always chilled, she possessed an amazing capacity to emanate warmth. That said, you would want to beware of the famous "Aunt Fernie look" if you stepped out of line. She was gracious and welcoming, always laughing at your jokes, but never at you. Her selfless nature and uncompromising love made everyone's lives better and the world a better place to live in. Her life stands as a noteworthy model of how to live fully, with dignity, class and spirit. She influenced and impacted those around her in many unseen, inspiring ways. She showed up for others every day and her legacy will carry forward.
Fern was dedicated to her family first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She is predeceased by Gene, her loving husband of 59 years. She leaves a son John and wife Michele from Bridgewater, VA, son Jeffrey and wife Laura from Clovis, CA, daughter Jennifer and husband Ted from Manchester, NH, daughter Jacqueline from Manchester, NH and seven grandchildren (Ethan, Emily, Sydney, Elliott, Caroline, Max and Aden).
A special thanks to those who provided invaluable, compassionate care for our mother. A "Celebration of Life" for Fernande and Gene will be held in July.
J.N. Boufford & Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
