Lorraine TESSIER

LORRAINE FOOR-BUNDY (nee Tessier) age 94 of Crown Point Christian Village, IN; formerly of Winter Haven, FL, passed away on Tuesday, March 2, 2021.

She is survived by her daughter Kathryn (Gordon) Craig; son George Foor; grandson Brian Craig; great-granddaughter Scarlett Craig; brother Vern (late Cathy) Tessier; and her many nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her husbands Robert Foor and Roger Bundy; parents Leo & Cecilia Tessier; sister Shirly Peterson and brother Everett Tessier.

Lorraine was born on February 9, 1927 to Leo and Cecelia Tessier in Iron Mountain, Michigan and was therefore an official “Yooper,” meaning someone from the upper peninsula of Michigan.  As a kid in the U.P. she enjoyed playing in the snow, including being an accomplished skier and figure skater who could do some very cool spins on ice.   One week after graduation from Kingsford High School in 1945 she and her best friend Kate boarded the train to Ann Arbor   to begin their new jobs as switchboard operators for Michigan Bell Telephone.  They were greeted at the train depot by a representative of the company.  Little did Lorraine know at that time that this woman was the aunt of her future daughter’s mother-in-law.   After picking up Lorraine and Kate, the kind woman took them to their first home in Ann Arbor, a large bedroom in the house owned by Mrs. Foor.  Again, little did Lorraine know that Mrs. Foor’s youngest son Bob was home on leave from the Army during World War II and that he would turn out to be her future husband.  On February 15, 1947 Lorraine and Bob were married in Iron Mountain and honeymooned in Chicago.  The had two children, Kathy and George.  She enjoyed being home with her children until Kathy began Kindergarten.  At that time, she secured a job as a receptionist at the front desk of a large printing company.  Subsequently she was promoted to Personnel Assistant.  Due to her friendly nature, sweet smile, and superb organizational and planning skills, she excelled in her job.  Later in her life she worked for Michigan Employment Security Commission assisting people in finding jobs and enjoyed meeting the variety of people who came in seeking help in their search for employment.

When she retired in 1987, she and Bob realized their dream of living in a warmer climate where shoveling snow did not exist.  They moved to Winter Haven, Florida and lived in a small community of detached patio homes and enjoyed the many activities available in the community, making new friends, and exploring the sights in the area, including many trips to Disney World and Cypress Gardens which was only about a mile from their home.

After Bob passed away from cancer in 1989, Lorraine never thought she would remarry.  But alone she was not to be and she married Roger Bundy in 1991.  She and Roger had many happy years together and were very active in their community and church.

It was after Roger’s death that she decided to move to Crown Point, Indiana to live near Kathy and her husband, Gordon, grandson Brian, and granddaughter Scarlett.

Lorraine had many interests and talents.  She was a fabulous cook and baker; her pie crust was heavenly.  She read the newspaper from cover to cover every morning and when she moved to Florida, she read two local newspapers so she could be well informed.   When she was in her seventies she learned how to use a personal computer and kept in touch with many friends and family members via e-mail.  In addition, she also learned how to play Bridge which was quite an accomplishment.  She loved to entertain friends and family with delicious food served at a lovely table.  She was a great letter-writer too and kept up regular correspondence with her family.

Lorraine was a loving, caring, and thoughtful wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, daughter, and friend.  She was loved by many and will be greatly missed!

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. from Emmanuel Lutheran Church (5375 Harrison St., Merrillville, IN) with Rev. Marc Cram officiating.  Family and friends may gather at the church 1/2 hour prior to services.  Masks MUST be worn will attending services.  She will later be laid to rest at Florida National Cemetery.
