Judith Ann Santure, more commonly known as Judy Santure-Waldo passed away at home midday on Monday, May 18, 2020. She succumbed after a year-long battle with liver cancer.
Judy was born in Merced, CA and raised in multiple cities (Air Force family). She obtained a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Florida, an Associate’s Degree in Nursing (and RN) from Troy State, as well as a Nurse Practitioner’s Certification from the US Air Force. She ultimately attained the rank of Captain in the US Air Force. During her career “The Stars and Stripes” (military newspaper) of July 13, 1980 reported how she had saved the life of (resuscitating) a 2-year old girl in Turkey, who had turned-blue in a nearly fatal drowning. Judy always laughed at that afterwards “the Turks thanked all the Air Force men on the beach.” She was an RN and a Nurse Practitioner for nearly 40 years, combined Air Force career and civil service at multiple military stations.
Her last 11 years were at Pensacola Naval Hospital, working in the Labor and Delivery Unit. Judy and Mike once “calculated” that she participated in approximately 1000 deliveries. She retired in 2015, and focused on “being a grandparent”. Though not herself a Rotarian, she was a strong supporter of Rotary efforts, and was even a “Paul Harris plus+2” donner to The Rotary Foundation.
Her 3 “noteworthy” quotes were:
“All that glitters is not gold; [pause] the important thing is that it glitters”. (she liked things that sparkled).
When going through chemo treatments….“I’m doing great; I’ve got 6 Jesuit alumni taking care of me”.
Most frequent reflection of life….“God always watched over me, and He has always taken good care of me”.
She is survived by her husband, Michael Waldo
