Rosamond Tierney (Ross) Tessier, a longtime Holyoke resident died peacefully at home on Friday, April 3, 2020 at the age of 103. She was born in Chicopee on June 16, 1916, a daughter of the late Edward T. and Sarah Jane (Godette) Ross. She attended Chicopee Schools and graduated from Chicopee High School. Furthering her education, Rose graduated from Westfield State College and began teaching in the Chicopee Public Schools where she spent her entire teaching career. After assignments at many Chicopee schools, she moved to Streiber School until her retirement after educating the youth of the city for over 25 dedicated years. She was a devout member of Holy Cross Church in Holyoke. Rosamond belonged to the Hampden County Retired Teachers Association and the MA Retired Teachers Association. She and her husband, Gerald Tessier, who died in 2005, were very active in the local square dance movement and traveled widely during their retirement. Their most notable trip involved being stranded in Russia during the Korean airline crisis ~ an adventure that led to many dramatic stories.
She leaves her daughter, Mary Tessier Curro (Peter) of Blandford: her son, Gerald Tessier of Holyoke (recently deceased in December, 2019) and his wife Kathy of Holyoke; grandchildren Sarah Curro Hougen (Eddy) of Florence, Emily Rose Curro (Ethan) of Northampton, Jeremy Tessier (Kristi) of Hampden, Ross Tessier of Holyoke, and Gerald J (GJ) Tessier (Julivette) of Amherst, a niece, Jean (Ross) Bates of Westfield as well as 8 great grandchildren. Her home caregivers, Denise, Rose, and Tito became like family members in her later years and gave her exceptional, loving care.
There will be no visiting hours or services at this time due to the current health crisis. If friends desire, memorial donations in Rose’s name may be made to Whole Children, 41 Russell St., Hadley, MA 01035 or the Troy Foundry Theatre, PO Box 1701, Troy, NY 12181. Please contact Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home for additional details.
