Hector LAVIGNE

Hector Lavigne 1957-2020
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Hec Lavigne on January 6, 2020 at the age of 62 years.  Dearly loved husband of Lynne Lavigne (nee Goulet) and devoted father of Nathan (Jaimie), Christopher (Celeste) and Kevin (Lindsay).  He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren; Taylor, Jayde and their mother Tara-Lynn Sargent, Heron and Nora, Christabelle, Milo and his mother Jillian Murphy.  Dear brother of Margaret Huard (Gerry), Sue LeBoeuf (Ron) and Bernadette Forth (Dale).  He will be missed by sister-in-law Lindy, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.  Predeceased by his parents; Hector Lavigne Sr. and Azeline (nee Pigeau) and his siblings Maurice Lavigne, Theodore Lavigne (Louise) and Jeannine Sheffield (Stanley).

Hec began his insurance career more than 40 years ago in Ottawa eventually going from the company to broker side of the industry.  His unique technical knowledge, position in the insurance community and natural relationship skills supported his clients at unprecedented levels and was a natural teacher and mentor to his co-workers.  “He has left a great void not only in this office, but in the insurance network, the community, and the hearts of all who knew him” - Frank Rivet

Hec entered politics as Reeve of Callander in December 2000.  He sat and chaired numerous local and regional boards and committees.

“Throughout his time as Head of Council, he was a strong leader and along with Council and staff, he worked hard to ensure that Callander remained family-focused and a great place to live, work and play”.  “He was just a really friendly guy;  lots of fun.  We always had lots of chuckles.  He was very family-oriented and just super to deal with.  There was no nonsense with Hec.  When we had our meetings there as the serious option and then there was the fun portion that came after the business was done.” - Vic Fedeli

Hec was a proud Metis and was a Member of Board with  the Metis Voyageur Development Fund whose sole mandate is to provide funding and support to Ontario Métis businesses.

Family will receive visitors at the Callander Community Centre on Sunday January 12, 2020 from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm and will be followed by a prayer service at 4:00 PM.

The family will continue one of Hec’s nearest and dearest projects - that being the continued beautification of the Centennial Park in Callander.  Donations to the “Hec Lavigne Centennial Park Beautification Project” would be greatly appreciated and will be accepted at the visitation Sunday or at the RBC, 5 Main Street, Callander ON P0H 1H0.
