Alta C. LeMar, 85 years of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away Friday, February 24, 2012 at a local nursing home.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 28, at 11:00 am, at Miller Funeral Home, 507 South Main, Sioux Falls. Visitation will be for two hours prior to the service.
Alta Coleen Tessier was born on July 3, 1926 in Watertown, SD to Blair and Minnie (Heathcote) Tessier.
She received her education in the area, and in 1951, moved to Sioux Falls. Alta retired from Good Samaritan in 1988.
Alta belonged to Daughters of the American Revolution, Mary Chilton Chapter, and also the Augustana Lutheran Church. She will be remembered as a humorous, hardworking, feisty lady who loved gardening, dancing, and telling a good story. Alta enjoyed reading Karen Kingsbury novels. You always knew where you stood with Alta, because she would let you know. She loved all animals, including her pet squirrels.
Those left to cherish Alta’s memory include: step-daughter Donna Safford; three grandchildren, Ramona Singer, Paul Mitchell, and Major Steven Richter; seven great-grandchildren, Shauna Koepke, Sean Singer-Jackson, Chelsey Weise, Jesse Mitchell, Major Richter, Elaina Richter, and Lydia Richter; one great-great-grandchild Deonte Evans; three sisters, Dorothy (Verlin) Halverson, Rose Bailey, and Anne Guist; personal best friend, Balzer “Curly” LeMar; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and great friends. Alta was preceded in death by: her parents; daughters, Lois Mitchell, and Patricia Richter; three sisters; and four brothers.
