Arthur James TACY

Arthur James Tacy 1914-2013
DANNEMORA, NY- Arthur Tacy, 98, of Thayer Avenue, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, August 25, 2013 at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, with his family at his side. He was born in Dannemora on December 29, 1914 the son of Wilfred and Myrtle (Bull) Tacy. Art’s dad died when Art was just a teenager and he stepped up and went to work at the Dannemora State Hospital to support his mother and 4 siblings. He married the love of his life, Eileen Beauchemin on June 21, 1941 in Redford. They enjoyed 72 years of marriage. Art was called to serve our country in 1943 and was a World War II veteran, serving in the PacificTheatre. As part of the US 10th Army, he was involved in many large battles including the Battle of Okinawa. He received many medals including the WWII Victory Medal and was honorably discharged on January 14, 1946. Art returned to his previous employment as a correction officer at the State Hospital and retired in 1971, after 35 years of service. Art was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church, a member of the VFW and American Legion Post #0852. He was also a former member of the Dannemora Fire Department and past tax assessor for the Village of Dannemora. Until his sight diminished, Art was never one to sit still. He spent many hours caning and refinishing chairs, and mass-producing countless wood working projects that he generously shared with others. He also enjoyed playing cards, bowling in leagues, golf, cooking (especially chili and cabbage rolls), camping with his family, and visiting with others. His quick mind and great wit stayed with him until the end. In his easy-going way, he would say: “When I die, just tell them I was a good guy.” Art-you were a GREAT guy! Art was predeceased by his parents, brothers, Robert and Carl Tacy, sisters, Grace Martin and Rita Baker. He is survived by his loving wife, Eileen, two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Robert and Madeline Tacy of Los Altos Hills, CA and Michael and Cheri Tacy of Dannemora, three grandsons, Chris (Erin) Tacy of North Carolina, Shannon (Nicolette) Tacy and Mark Tacy of CA; three great-grandchildren, Amelia and Siena of NC and Keiran of CA; two sisters-in-law, Marge (Edward) Camfield of Plattsburgh and Jean (Arnold) Beauchemin of Burgaw, NC and many nieces and nephews. We wish to give many thanks to all the special angels that helped our Dad in the twilight of his life. They include Faye King, Sue Chase, Irene Ashline, and special niece and caregiver Debbie Alphonso, plus the staff on R7. Calling hours will be Wednesday, August 28, 2013 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home, 69 Court Street, Plattsburgh. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 29, at St. Joseph’s Church in Dannemora. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Donations in Arthur’s memory may be made to St. Joseph’s Church in Dannemora.
